Tartaruga Lending Library

With the release of the new record by Brassica we are pleased to announce the opening of the Tartaruga Lending Library. If you are interested in borrowing items from the library then you must sign up, but we suggest you read through the questions below first.

What is the library?

As well as being able to buy the new album from Brassica, it is available to borrow. At the moment this is the only item available in the library, but we hope to add some other things in the future.

How does it work?

Interested people can sign up (see below). They will then receive an email confirming their membership of the library. We have a limited number of copies of the album, and so the first members to sign up will be the first people to receive the album. This is a regular copy of the new album with all the full packaging and artwork, plus library index card. Upon receiving the item you must enter your name and date on the library card. After one week the item should be sent on. The person who receives the item will be instructed to email us to notify that they have received it.

Who do I send it to?

Either when you receive the item, or whilst you have it, you will receive the name and address of the next person to send it on to. You can re-use the envelope that you received the item in, but you must pay the postage of sending it on. If there is a big waiting list we may ask you to keep it less than a week...

What does it cost?

The library is free to join. You will receive the item without paying anything. However, you must pay the postage of sending it on to the next person. There will be a price information sheet with the item, but the cost will depend on the location you are sending to:

Within the UK: 52p
Europe: £1.24
Rest of the World: £1.64

Remember, these are costs from posting within the UK. They will change if you live elsewhere.

What's to stop me copying the CD?

Erm.... nothing.

What's to stop me keeping the CD?

Well, we have your name, address and email. We will know who has the item at any time. If it doesn't get posted on we will get in touch to find out why.

What's the point of it all?

A good question! For starters, we understand that some people might be interested in the album but don't want to pay £10 without hearing anything. This way, they can check it out, listen to the music and see the artwork for a very small cost. If they like it, they can then buy the album (although they still have to post this copy on).

Also, this is a limited run of 200 copies. We expect this to sell out, and this way we hope more people can hear the music and see the full packaging. The album should hopefully be available for digital purchase at some point in the near future, but we think there is a big difference between having a bunch of MP3s and a proper physical release. Especially our printed/sewn/stamped/numbered/hand-crafted releases.

Finally, we're trying to do something that can maybe encourage some communication here. People are encouraged to leave comments about the album on the Library Card, maybe you want to enclose a little note or drawing for the next person. This process is about sharing something, adding to it, and contributing. This is an experiment. We don't know how it will work.

Ok I'm convinced! How do I sign up?

Send an email to library@tartarugarecords.com with your full name, email address (if different from where you're sending), and postal address. You will receive a response to confirm your membership, and we'll notify you of when you can expect to receive the item.
